Juventus coach Antonio Conte believes that the final result in the Bianconeri’s match against Benfica didn’t reflect the overall performance of his team.

The Old Lady lost 2-1 to the Aguias at the Estadio Da Luz in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final match-up.

“I do not think it’s a fair result,” said Conte to TuttoMercatoWeb.

“With all due respect to Benfica, we deserved much more for our performance and for what we created. It’s too bad that we couldn’t capitalize in front of goal. If I have to find a positive in defeat, now we must play hard for the final 90 minutes.

“I think it was a beautiful first game in the semi-final, we have also shown that we have all that it takes to get to the final.

“Shocked about the beginning of the game? Conceding from set piece situations bothers me, but I’m happy with how we reacted.”

The tactician then discussed why he started Mirko Vucinic.

“I needed a player who could hold the ball and attack the space, we astutely studied Benfica, they held their defensive line very high,” he said. “I think he had a good game.

“I’m also pleased for Carlos Tevez. I was afraid to play him for a relapse of his injuries. When you aren’t playing for 10 days and you do not practice, you can be timid, but someone like Carlos does not disappoint you.”
