Livorno boss Domenico Di Carlo has insisted that his team will work their hardest to attain salvation and remain in the Serie A next season.

The Labronici will be facing AC Milan at the San Siro on Saturday and the tactician is aware that the match will be a tough one, though he expects his squad to show a higher level of determination in hopes of redeeming their 4-2 loss to Chievo last weekend.

Di Carlo spoke during his pre-match press conference on Friday about the Amaranto’s need to secure points in these final five games, while admitting that he’s happy to have defender Emerson back in the starting line up.

“The defeat we suffered seven days ago at home has been hard for all of us,” said the 50-year-old. “Unfortunately we had entered the race with too much tension, which is what also happened with Verona.

“However, nothing is decided yet. Five difficult matches await us in which we will have to try and secure as many points as possible. This was our situation even before the match last Sunday.

“We’ll continue to work because Livorno wants to remain in the Serie A, we’ll play our hardest in all of the matches that are left.

“The boys always put in their maximum effort. We’re just three points away from salvation. We will have to look to the whole club and there are no excuses for any absences, whoever plays will give their all.

“Milan are coming off of a long series of consecutive successes and will be looking earn points in their fight for Europe, just like we need points for salvation.

“We must have compactness in our game and play with speed. I expect a big response from the team. The players must maintain clear thinking and play like a team that are fighting for their lives. We must defend better in order to attack better.

“If the matches are all to be played with compactness and courage then we will be able to secure salvation.

“The good news is that Emerson is back in the group and I’d say that this is first good news that comes in a long while.”
