Inter midfielder Hernanes believes that the Biscione will be top contenders for the Scudetto once again within the next two years.

The 28-year-old, who joined the Nerazzurri from Lazio during this season’s January transfer window, is confident that new coach Walter Mazzarri can lead the team to success in the future as they’ve continued show progress from their poor run last term despite some lingering inconsistencies.

Hernanes spoke to Tuttosport ahead of Inter’s match with Parma on Saturday, which they ended up winning 2-0, about why he decided to join the Milan side and commented on his physical fitness at the time.

“I’m convinced that we can be fighting for the Scudetto within the next two years,” said the Brazilian international.

“However, before that we must think of the match with Parma, which we will treat as a final.

“Mazzarri? He’s the right man for this project.

“I came here to win the Serie A title. When I realised that I couldn’t do it at Lazio, I chose to come to Inter.

“The World Cup? I’m not worried by [Luiz Felipe] Scolari’s failure to call me up last time.

“My fitness? At the moment I’m around 80 per cent. To be decisive I have to reach my maximum again.

“The ankle injury hasn’t allowed me enough time to do any better than I am right now.”
