Gökhan Inler has revealed that in 2011 he decided to join Napoli over a move to Juventus.
In that summer, Juventus ended up buying Arturo Vidal from Bayer Leverkusen at a discount price.
“There were some rumours [of a move to Juventus] but I always felt the support of the team and of the people of Naples, this is why I chose to come here,” the Swiss told Piuenne on Tuesday.
At his unveiling unveiling he wore a lion mask, something which he states was Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis’ idea.
“It was an idea of the president [Aurelio] De Laurentiis, he is a person that likes this kind of stuff,” the Swiss midfielder said.
“He wanted to do something special and in the locker room he found this mask that belonged to [Ezequiel] Lavezzi.”
Inler also spoke about his favourite goal and the aims for the remainder of the season.
“The goal I am more attached to is the one I scored against Chelsea in the Champions League,” he continued.
“We want to give our best against Inter and then take Coppa Italia, we want to win the game against Fiorentina.”
