Inter midfielder Mateo Kovacic has revealed his delight after having started against Sampdoria after a long period spent on the bench.

Despite making 27 appearances this year, the Croatian has started only nine games and played only four full games.

“Against Sampdoria I think that we played bad in the first half, while we did better in the second,” the playmaker told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have won, we are happy, we can do even better but we are on the right path.

“I am happy because I had not played for a while, we all played well and we must keep going like this.”

Kovacic has not scored yet since joining Inter but he hopes he will find the back of the net soon.

“Every week my friends write me asking me whether I will score and at the end it never arrives, but it does not matter.

“I hope so, I say this in every interview but it never happens,” he replied when he was asked whether he will score against Parma.

He also discussed the reasons of his scoring slump.

“I think I am missing a bit of cleverness. I see the man but I do not see the goal well yet, but I speak with the coach and the experienced players to improve on this aspect.

“I am working on everything, also on the defensive phase and on where I have to stay on the pitch when the ball is on the right or on the left.”
