Italy boss to start Balotelli and Destro at World Cup?

Mattia Destro - ItalyItaly head coach Cesare Prandelli is reported to have decided on starting Mario Balotelli and Mattia Destro as his forwards in the FIFA World Cup 2014.

The Azzurri are placed in Group D facing England first followed by games against Costa Rica and Uruguay in Prandelli’s first World Cup as the Italian boss.

According to SportMediaset, the 56-year-old technician is determined to start with Balotelli and Destro in the attack while he has almost finished deciding on his 23 man squad for Brazil.

The report suggests that 24 players are considered by the former Fiorentina coach out of which he will use one as a standby.  The report has enlisted that the squad comprises of four goalkeepers, eight defenders, six midfielders and six attackers.

The goalkeepers constitute of Gianluigi Buffon, Mattia Perin, Salvatore Sirigu and Simone Scuffet. The defense is composed of Andrea Barzagli, Christian Maggio, Domenico Criscito, Gabriel Paletta, Giorgio Chiellini, Ignazio Abate, Leonardo Bonucci and Mattia De Sciglio.

The midfield comprises of Andrea Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio, Daniele De Rossi, Marco Verratti, Riccardo Montolivo and Thiago Motta. The attack consists of Alberto Gilardino, Alessio Cerci, Ciro Immobile, Mario Balotelli, Mattia Destro and one of Antonio Cassano or Giuseppe Rossi.

The report also indicates that Rossi’s entry into this team will depend on his fitness and form when he returns from injury while Cassano’s spot is at the moment less secure than it was three weeks back from Prandelli’s point of view.
