Roma fullback Maicon stated that the team and the city deserve to take part in the Champions League.
Following the 1-0 victory against Fiorentina, Roma clinched second place in Serie A and guaranteed a spot in the group stage of Europe’s premier club competition.
“Roma is an important club and an important city that must always participate to the Champions League,” Maicon told Rai Sport.
He commented on the Scudetto race with the Giallorossi still eight points behind leaders Juventus with four games to play.
“It is not over yet,” the Brazilian said “We will keep trying when there is some hope, even though it is hard because Juventus will not give anything away.”
He concluded by praising Roma captain Francesco Totti, while also making a case for his inclusion in Italy’s World Cup squad.
“Champions like him play in every national team, but I do not decide that, he would be important for Italy.”
