Catania coach Rolando Maran has admitted that he is losing faith in the Elefanti’s chances of achieving Serie A salvation after their defeat to Torino on Sunday.

The Etnei lost 2-1 to the Granata despite taking an early lead and he cited the Toro equaliser as the turning point in the match.

“The hopes of salvation are complicated and more so after this game,” Maran told Rai Sport.

“We have to believe in ourselves and try until the end but in six games from the end, this KO complicates things a lot.

“We did well to control the game in the first half, we went ahead and we did not risk anything.

“At that point, after spending a lot [of energy] and with our psychological condition, it had complicated everything.”

After 32 rounds and with six matches remaining, Catania sit at the bottom of the Serie A table with just 20 points.

The Etnei are seven points behind Chievo and Bologna, who are level in 16th with 27 points and thus outside of the relegation zone.
