Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio has revealed that the Old Lady are confident in their chances of earning a spot in the Europa League final in Turin.

The Bianconeri will be facing Portuguese club Benfica in the tournament’s semi-finals, with the first leg coming on April 24 in Lisbon, and the 28-year-old has insisted that the Italian side will also be trying their hardest to win the competition due to Juve’s lack of European success in recent years.

Marchisio spoke to UEFA.com on Tuesday about Thursday’s match with Benfica and the Serie A team’s hopes of making it to the final at Juventus Stadium, while also stating that Juve will not underestimate their opponents.

“It would be important to win the Europa League because many of the players in the squad have never won a European trophy,” said the Italian international.

“Also, Juventus haven’t raised a European trophy in almost 20 years. Now we have the opportunity to win one.

“You should never underestimate your opponents, regardless of their level, the motivation can make a difference when you get to these stages.

“Of course Porto have experience and quality players, characteristics that can create difficulties for us. We’ll have to think about the game as if it’s another final.

“Two quality teams will give their all and try to put on a great match.

“On our part, we are confident in our chances of being able to achieve our, which is to play in the final in Turin.”
