Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic stated that Catania were more than deserving of all three points from their match on Saturday afternoon.

The Blucerchiati lost 2-1 to the Etnei and Mihajlovic stated that Catania’s performance merited the win in spite of Stefano Okaka’s superb solo goal for Samp.

“Catania deserved the win even if we did score an outrageous goal,” Mihajlovic told Rai Sport.

Sampdoria have lost their last three Serie A matches and Mihajlovic was asked if his team had lost something psychologically.

“No, I don’t believe so. It’s not the case [because] we played well against Lazio and Inter. Today we had different injuries and suspensions.

Mihajlovic fielded a makeshift squad so he could give opportunities to players who had been given little matchtime previously, especially in midfield. Unfortunately for Sampdoria, the midfield consisting of Birkir Bjarnason, Renan and Bartosz Salamon did not function very well.

“I had different responses and they were more negative than positive,” Mihajlovic concluded.
