Inter honorary president Massimo Moratti has stated that he believes fan favourite and current Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will one day come back to Appiano Gentile.

Mourinho remains in the hearts of Nerazzurri fans after guiding the team to an unprecedented treble in 2010.

Although former owner Moratti has played down suggestions that ‘The Special One’ will rejoin Inter in the immediate future, he did insinuate that bringing him back would be more beneficial than signing lots of players.

“I often think we could bring back Jose rather than buying lots of players, but it requires common sense,” Moratti told Tele Lombardia.

“We also mustn’t forget he only arrived because of Roberto Mancini’s post-Liverpool outburst. It was difficult to tell Mancini we had signed another coach while the Scudetto celebrations were going on.

“Mourinho confirmed his great professionalism. I warned him we’d need to wait for Mancini and he said he’d remain at my disposal without contacting other clubs. He kept his word.

“I think it was right to end that way. Mou was like a gust of wind, or a huge thunderstorm. It was right not to drag the rapport on after the Treble. The next season we won the Italian Super Cup, World Club Cup and Coppa Italia.

“If Leonardo had arrived earlier, then perhaps we would’ve won another Scudetto,” pondered the former Inter supremo, taking a jab at Rafa Benitez who took over the Nerazzurri after Mourinho’s departure.

“Jose did not find satisfaction at Real Madrid, but now he is at Chelsea, another club he is fond of. I know that he’d come back here to Inter. He can’t right now, but maybe he’ll arrive later on after Walter Mazzarri, who is another very good coach, has won three Scudetti.”
