Gilardino GenoaReports suggest that veteran Genoa forward Alberto Gilardino is in negotiations to seal a move to Napoli at the end of the season.

Gilardino has enjoyed a fruitful season at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and he could end up serving as Gonzalo Higuain’s understudy at the Partenopei as they look to challenge for honours next season.

According to Sportmediaset, the deal is being driven by Genoa president Enrico Preziosi who is offering the Italy international to Napoli in order to reduce the wage bill of the squad.

The 31-year-old striker has enjoyed a well travelled career in Serie A having represented no fewer than seven sides including the likes of Piacenza, Hellas Verona, Parma, AC Milan and Fiorentina, Bologna and current side Genoa.

He currently sits within the top 15 highest goalscorers in Serie A history and has shown no signs of slowing down this season.
