Napoli Pay Off Stadio San Paolo Arrears

napoli san paoloNapoli have paid their rent arrears to the City of Naples for their use of the Stadio San Paolo.

In line with a number of Italian clubs, the Partenopei loan their ground from the local council, though often find themselves paying for improvements to the infrastructure.

A statement issued by the club on their website confirmed the payment had been met.

“The club transferred payment,” the statement read, “in favour of the City of Naples to the sum of €6,232,792.71 including VAT.”

The announcement also confirmed that the payment was the last money currently due to the council and that the bill had been paid in full.

Despite regular indication that Napoli would like to leave the Stadio San Paolo and move to a purpose-built home ground, the Azzurri continue to use stadium, their home since 1959.

As recently as last week, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis offered to build a new athletics track for the City of Naples in order to fill in the running track around the Stadio San Paolo.
