Rafa Benitez is looking for a top tier centre-back to strengthen the Napoli defence and has earmarked Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.
The Partenopei are thought to be close to completing the purchase of Genk’s 23-year-old defender Kalidou Koulibaly for €5 million.
Now, according to Napoli-based newspaper Il Mattino, Benitez is looking towards the Premier League and his main target is Arsenal’s Vermaelen.
It is also thought that Napoli are once again close to Olympique Lyonnais defensive midfielder Maxime Gonalons and they have offered him a four-year contract.
Napoli are expected to revolutionise their squad as the Spanish coach wants to get rid of many players that were brought in during Walter Mazzarri’s reign.
