A 0-0 draw for Torino at home to Genoa is of little bearing to the chasing teams behind them, with Juventus still stuck 12 points off the Granata in second.

The Bianconeri were in devastating form on the road with Fabio Grosso’s outfit beating Modena 4-1 despite going a goal down with Matteo Gerbaudo in fine form for the away side.

Sampdoria and Parma also drew 0-0 while Novara, who have been in excellent form in the past few months, comfortably beating Bologna 3-1 at home.

Carpi continue to struggle at the wrong end of the table and were not helped by a 2-0 defeat in Siena, their cause not helped by conceding a first half penalty and having a man sent off.

Ettore Gliozzi’s Sassuolo scoring run continues as he again got the two goals that saw them crush Cesena 2-0 while Spezia were thoroughly dismantled by Empoli in Tuscany, Diego Frugoli twice getting on the score sheet in a 5-0 win.

Chievo remain top of Group B but their lead was cut to a single point after they could only draw 1-1 at Padova and Atalanta took full advantage by beating Brescia 1-0 in Bergamo.

AC Milan were also in ruthless form as they went to Cittadella and left with a 6-0 win as Michael Fabbro and Maks Barisic filled their boots by scoring twice apiece.

They were not the only big winners as Ternana travelled to Udinese and were sent packing with nothing but a chastening 4-1 loss to show for their trip to the north east.

Hellas Verona and Varese served up late drama in their game with the score poised at 1-1 with nine minutes to go, Verona scored before being pegged back with four minutes remaining although they regained the lead in the 91st minute before the visitors again popped up with a 93rd minute equaliser to rescue a 3-3 draw and a point.

Inter hosted Virtus Lanciano and won by the odd goal in five (although the Virtus goals did not come until injury time) in a game in which Federico Bonazzoli at last got back to scoring form by hitting a brace.

Finally, Pescara beat Cagliari 1-0.

The top two, Lazio and Fiorentina, met in Rome with only a point between the sides in Group C and it stayed that way afterwards following a 1-1 draw.

Latina lost convincingly at home to a hungry Roma team who put five without reply into the back of the net as Alberto De Rossi continues to blood further new talent into the side.

However, Napoli were stunned 4-1 at home by Trapani as Antonio Pitasi helped himself to a hat-trick while Fabio Aveni and Simone Caruso got the goals for Catania in a 2-0 win over Reggina.

Livorno were beaten 2-1 at Crotone and Juve Stabia had Carmine Gargiulo’s two goals to thank for helping them beat Bari 2-0.

Sadly, Avellino regressed to the mean after their first win of the campaign last week by going down 1-0 at Palermo.
