Roma striker Mattia Destro has lost his appeal against a three-match ban that he picked up after an incident in the capital city club’s recent match against Cagliari.

The 23-year-old was handed the three-match ban for violent conduct after footage from the Giallorossi’s 3-1 win over the Isolani on April 6 showed the Italian international striking Cagliari defender Davide Astori in the face.

The FIGC announced that the Federal Court of Justice had rejected the striker’s appeal on Thursday and that he must serve the suspension in it’s entirety.

Destro, who is currently Roma’s top scoring player with 13 goals in 18 Serie A appearances this season thus far, will also have to remain on the bench for an extra match due to an accumulation of yellow cards, which means he won’t be making his return until the Lupi’s home game against Juventus on May 9.

Roma currently sit eight points behind Juve in second place in the Serie A standings.
