Rome officially enter bid for 2020 European Championship

Stadio OlimpicoThe Italian Football Federation has officially handed a dossier to UEFA confirming that Rome’s Stadio Olimpico will be considered as a venue for the 2020 European Championship.

The Euros will be reformatted in 2020 and will feature 13 stadiums across the continent with 29 nations expected to bid for their stadiums to be considered.

ANSA have confirmed that the Stadio Olimpico is a venue candidate for Italy with the bid receiving full support from the Italian government, the local council, CONI and the FIGC.

It is also understood that the dossier, which was coordinated by former AC Milan and Italy midfielder Demetrio Albertini, wishes the Stadio Olimpico to be considered for the group stage, second round and quarter finals.

31 rival venue bids are expected to be considered including Wembley Stadium in England, Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadyumu in Turkey and the Allianz Arena in Germany.

It is uncertain when the selected stadiums will be be confirmed.
