AC Milan boss Clarence Seedorf admits his team must give credit to Catania for their continued fight against the Diavolo on Sunday despite losing in the end.

The Rossoneri secured a 1-0 victory over the Elefanti at the San Siro on Sunday with a goal from captain Riccardo Montolivo, which has moved them up to eighth place in the Serie A standings, but the tactician insists that he tries not to pay attention to the table as he wants his players to remain focused no matter what their position may be.

Seedorf spoke to Sky Sport Italia after Milan’s victory about their performance and conceded that there are still improvements to be made, though he feels there has been more balance in the squad since his arrival as coach.

“I don’t look at the rankings too much,” said the 38-year-old. “I know the situation we’re in and we’ll see where we end up at the end of the season.

“The way this Milan team plays is very important, we are aggressive and determined, even if we’ve only had small stints of good play.

“On the other hand, there was Catania who never gave up and we must give merit to them for their performance.

“When did I decide to play Montolivo? I decided to use this formation with him yesterday evening.

“What do I dislike about the team? We must be more relaxed in the management of our games, there are times that we make technical mistakes in the evaluation of our opponents.

“We must also keep the ball more, these are some aspects that we must continue to work on.

“The team appears more balanced since my arrival? Yes, the lines are collaborating a lot more.

“Everyone is understanding that they should contribute to the defence and this is helping. In order to come out of the situation we were in, we needed to have a lot of character.

“How come I chose [Daniele] Bonera for the outer defensive position? I would prefer players like Cafu and Serginho, but we don’t have them and Bonera provides a great balance.

“[Kevin] Constant belongs more in the centre, while [Urby] Emanuelson is the only one who has done more on the wings.

“Then we have [Ignazio] Abate as well, however, he had recently suffered an injury.”
