Sampdoria have announced that supporters will not need the Fan Card or Tessera for the Blucerchiati’s away trip to Parma on May 4.

The Tessera was introduced in 2009 by the government in an attempt to reduce football violence  but became deeply unpopular with fans who feel it is too draconian and is responsible in falling attendances, especially among away fans.

“For the game on May 4, Doria supporters will not need the Tessera del Tifoso to travel to the Ennio Tardini,” read a statement on Sampdoria’s official website ahead of the match between the two twinned clubs.

“There has already been a victory, even if Sampdoria and Parma are yet to play.

“We are talking about the fair play of the Blucerchiati and Crociati fans, football that does not divide but unifies in the values of friendship and the passion of two different sets of supporters.”

The club announced that the experimental measure is possible thanks to co-operation between the two clubs, the police forces of Genoa and Parma and has been given the go ahead by the governing body, the National Observer on Sporting Events.

Sampdoria gave much praise to the joint initiatives of Parma and Sampdoria fans in getting the measure passed and made special mention of Boys Parma 1977 who have been co-ordinating efforts to welcome Ultras Tito Cucchiaroni and all Samp fans to the city on matchday.

The City of Parma has also agreed to sponsor a ‘Fan Village’ in Piazza Ghiaia where supporters of both sides can meet and socialise before and after the game.
