Andrea Mandorlini Hellas VeronaHellas Verona coach Andrea Mandorlini has revealed that midfielder Romulo will not take part in the Gialloblu’s clash against away at Atalanta on Saturday April 19.

The Scaligeri boss also spoke about his time as a player seeing as he spent time with La Dea between 1980 and 1981 before returning to Bergamo as a coach between 2003 and 2004 and described his experiences there as vital in his development in football, above all teaching him the importance of a little bit of luck.

“As a player I didn’t do great [at Atalanta],” said Mandorlini in his pre-match comments published on Verona’s official website.

“After many years I returned as a coach and I spent a very nice year and a half on the bench there.

“I cannot do anything other than speak well of the place, they held me in high esteem, I was in an important role at an important club with good players and passionate supporters, like ours now at Verona.”

After paying tribute to the Nerazzurri, Mandorlini turned his thoughts ahead to the Atalanta side his Gialloblu team will face up against.

“They have more experience than us, they are used to playing in this division,” he said.

“In other aspects we are two similar teams and we hope to have the same experiences as them in Serie A.

“It will be a good match.”

Mandorlini insisted that he was happy with his options in midfield despite Romulo’s absence:

“In midfield we are happy, Romulo will not travel and I only have five midfielders available, also considering Godfred Donsah.

“We wanted to bring Romulo back into the team but he has this muscle complaint and we would prefer not to risk him.”

Mandorlini was also specifically asked about Donsah seeing as it was suggested the 17-year-old Ghanaian may make his debut for the Mastini against Atalanta:

“He is quality player, he has always been with us, if there is a need to play him then there won’t be any problems.”
