Regardless of their performance at the World Cup finals in Brazil this summer, it has been reported that former AC Milan and Lazio boss Alberto Zaccheroni will leave his post as coach of the Japanese national team after the competition.

The 61-year-old has been in charge of the side since taking over as coach after the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and led the team to 2011 Asia Cup success.

According to Tuttomercatoweb the Japan Football Association have set their sights on current Espanyol coach Javier Aguirre, who would take along some international coaching experience gained during two periods with Mexico the country of his birth.

Zaccheroni could yet continue his international adventure, with China interested in appointing the Italian, however, there are also whispers of a so far unnamed ‘big’ Italian club willing to contest with English side Fulham for his signature.
