Fiorentina skipper Manuel Pasqual was disappointed with the Viola’s failure to claim a major trophy since 2001, but reserved words of praise for the 2013-14 Coppa Italia winners, Napoli.

Partenopei tactitian Rafael Benitez registered his ninth different trophy as a head coach in Europe, but it was Azzurri hopeful Lorenzo Insigne who stole the show with a blistering performance and a brace to go.

“I want to congratulate Napoli,” Pasqual toldĀ tuttomercatoweb.com.

“It is a great team,” he continued, “but there is a great regret [in the Fiorentina camp]. We are sorry for our fans who did not get to lift a trophy for a long time.

The 32-year-old then went on to discuss the game, adding that he was sorry to hear about the pre-match violence, but delighted to welcome talisman Giuseppe Rossi back from a lengthy injury lay-off.

“We met a great team that put us in trouble right away. It was a tight game.

“The first fifteen minutes? It’s a shame because we played well the whole game and put Napoli under pressure.

“The pre-match scenes? Sorry, we were all taken aback from the dramatic news coming in.

“Rossi on the field? We welcome him with open arms, we hope we can help him out from here to the end [World Cup].

Pasqual can have another go at the Coppa Italia with the Gigliati next season following a one-year contract extension earlier this term.
