Manchester United are set to make an unexpected move for Roma’s Gervinho.

The Ivory Coast international has impressed in his debut season in Serie A, seeing him reunited with his former Lille coach Rudi Garcia.

According to the Sunday Express, United are willing to meet the €20 million buyout clause in his contract.

The 26-year-old believes he should be rewarded for his seasons efforts and wants both a pay rise and an extension on his current deal, but the Giallorossi are in no position to meet the players demands.

Nevertheless coach Garcia believes the club will retain their best players, rewarding them to keep the team strong.

“I hope we will be able to keep our best players. The extension with Miralem Pjanic is a strong message: we want to keep our group and strengthen it,” the Express quoted Garcia as saying.

“Our goal this summer is not to increase the wage budget, but logically we should not have to sell,”

The forward has been in impressive form during the campaign, scoring nine goals with 10 assists from 33 Serie A appearances.
