Reports in Italy suggest that Manchester United are set to renew their pursuit of Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman this summer as they look to rebuild their squad.

Having been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old Holland international last summer, before he sealed a switch to Italy, it is thought that the Red Devils are still keen on landing their man.

According to La Repubblica, Manchester United see Strootman as an ideal base for their revamped midfield and are also keen on tying up a deal for Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos. After a disappointing campaign that looks set to end in a seventh-placed finish for the club, United are expected to invest heavily in the summer. However, it is far from certain that Strootman, who has been ruled out of this summer’s World Cup, with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, would be interested in a move after such a promising first year in Rome.

Strootman scored five goals and picked up six assists in 25 appearances for the Giallorossi this season before injury struck, and established himself as a key cog in his Roma’s title push.
