Juventus sporting director Beppe Marotta admits that the Old Lady will be looking to hold on to Paul Pogba this summer while they continue strengthening the team.

The 21-year-old has become a popular transfer target among Europe’s top clubs, with teams like Chelsea and Real Madrid apparently preparing deal proposals for the midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window, though the Bianconeri executive is adamant that Italian side’s only intention is to offer him an extension in hopes of keeping him in Turin.

Marotta spoke to Sky Sport Italia about Juve’s plans to recruit new talent at the end of the new season, while attempting to keep all of their key players, namely Pogba.

“This year we reinforced the team with the arrival of [Carlos] Tevez, [Fernando] Llorente and [Angelo] Ogbonna,” said the 57-year-old.

“We have an obligation to improve the team during every summer campaign. This doesn’t mean that we’ll do anything crazy, but we will do a recruitment drive with great caution, respecting the financial fair play.

“We will do so by relying on a group that can that can continue improving day after day.

“Regarding Pogba, we have the intention and the firmness to extend his contract. We have sketched out the numbers and, in any case, Paul is a smart guy and this is his natural habitat to improve himself further.

“We cannot imagine his departure from Juventus.”
