David Pizarro FiorentinaFiorentina midfielder David Pizarro has brushed aside the notion of a ‘disappointing season’ by stating that the Viola endured a campaign without their most influential strikers.

The three-time Coppa Italia winner claims that the final between the Gigliati and Napoli was lost in the early stages, making it extremely difficult to restore parity after his side went two down to Lorenzo Insigne’s clinical finishing.

“We lost the match in the first 16 minutes,” he told the press.

“After the 2-0, we came out and played well and had a glorious chance to level it towards the end.”

Jospi Ilicic found himself with a clear-cut chance around the 85-minute mark, but was unable to capitalise, thus giving away what Pizarro considers a “match point”.

“The failure by Ilicic? That was the match point, we gave everything. Until the third goal arrived for them we played at par with Napoli, but now he have to focus on other important things [fourth place].

“The pre-match scenes? It always happens in Italy.

“Disappointing season? We had a championship without attackers. Despite injuries to key players we still played at par with all of the best teams throughout the season.

“My future? I am fine here, the attachment that people have to Fiorentina is unique. I want to stay here.”
