Sao Paolo are hoping that Roma will not exercise their option to sign on-loan defender Rafael Toloi thi summer.
The 23 year old was signed by Roma in January on loan until the end of the season, and after a difficult start to life in Italy, he has gained a starting role over the past three matches.
“We await the return of [Rafael] Toloi, we do not have players in the squad capable of replacing him,” Sao Paolo vice-president Ataide Gil Guerrero said.
“The problem is that in the last matches with Roma, he played well and they now might be willing to buy him. We must wait.”
Toloi has made four appearances for Roma this season.
