Former Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni will not be the new coach of Morocco after Badou Zaki was confirmed as the new boss of the African nation.

Rumours had been circulating that the 75-year-old was set to be hired as coach of the North African side after several meetings between the two parties last week.

The Moroccan Football Federation however announced on Friday the return of former coach Zaki to the role that he left in 2006.

Trapattoni has not officially retired and has been out of work since leaving his job as manager of the Republic of Ireland in September 2013 after five years in the role.

The former Bayern Munich boss is one of the most celebrated Italian coaches of the modern era, winning league titles in four different countries as well as a European Cup with Juventus in 1985.
