Raul Albiol - NapoliNapoli defender Raul Albiol has revealed that he has no regrets regarding his decision to leave Real Madrid for the Azzurri last summer.

The 28-year-old, who arrived at the Partenopei from Madrid for a fee of €12 million in July 2013, admits that he would have enjoyed lifting the Champions League trophy with Los Blancos last month, though he believes that his move to the Serie A side has given him the feeling of importance that he has been looking for.

Albiol spoke to Cadena Ser about his decision to transfer to Napoli and insisted that joining the Italian side was the right choice.

“I’m happy for Real Madrid,” said the Spanish international. “I would have liked to raise the tenth Champions League trophy with my friends, but I have no regrets.

“I had decided to leave Madrid because I needed a new stimulus, not just to have a chance to play more so I could keep my spot in the Spain team for the World Cup.

“I wanted a team and a place that could bring new excitement and joy from playing. I wanted to feel important and at Napoli I am, and I have found the right environment where I can express myself, thanks to coach Rafa Benitez.

“I have indeed gotten everything I wanted in this Azzurri shirt.”
