Former Roma defender Cafu has revealed that he would have liked to see Francesco Totti competing for Italy at the World Cup in Brazil this summer and joked that he prefers the Lupi captain over Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

The 44-year-old, who won a Scudetto with the Giallorossi alongside Totti during the 2000-01 Serie A season, thinks the veteran may have been able to help the Azzurri at this summer’s tournament after his impressive season with capital city club last term, even though he’ll be turning 38-years-old later this year.

Cafu spoke to the Corriere dello Sport about his wishes to have seen Totti play at the World Cup again and insisted that Messi is the best player in the world.

“Messi or Ronaldo? Totti!” joked the ex-Brazil international, who won the World Cup with his country in 1994 and 2002.

“It’s too bad that he isn’t competing in Brazil, I would have liked to see him play in the tournament.

“But Messi is the best, he’s the strongest player of all right now.”
