Former Italy U-21 defender Giulio Donati has stated that he has adapted well at German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen and that the club wants him to stay with them.

The former Azzurrini defender moved to the Bundesliga club last season and he spoke about how Bayer sporting director Rudi Voeller was satisfied with his debut season with the German club.

“I am feeling well at Bayer where I have found a family-like atmosphere and the words of Voeller have pleased me, who has said that he wants to keep me,” Donati told Sky Sport Italia.

Donati also talked about how German clubs give opportunities to young players and that Italian teams should also grant more chances for youngsters to play regularly.

“In Germany it is natural to point at youth and it is not a risk and it should be the same in Italy,” said Donati.

“In the Bundesliga they throw youngsters of 17-18 years who already train with the first team while learning from the older ones.

“All of them make errors but a youngster has more time ahead of him to improve himself and to avoid repeating them.”
