Lazio are attempting a late charge to try and beat off competition from Rubin Kazan for the signature of Inter midfielder Saphir Taider.

New Lazio coach Stefano Pioli is an admirer of Taider, having coached the Algerian international when the pair were at Bologna a few seasons ago.

Alfredopedulla.it reports that although Inter and Bologna renewed their co-ownership deal for Taider earlier in the week, the Nerazzurri are the ones who have control where the midfielder’s future will lie next season.

Pioli has asked chairman Claudio Lotito to make an effort to bring Taider to the capital next season but the Lazio hierarchy are said to be prioritizing other targets at the moment, namely Bologna star Panagiotis Kone.

Rubin are clear favourites for Taider however with a potential swap deal with French international Yann M’Vila being mooted.
