While the World Cup captures the world’s attention, the biggest prize in Italian underage football was won this week as Chievo Verona bested Torino to take the trophy.

Having fought long and hard all season long, the sides also overcame the best of the rest at the knockout phase in Rimini this week before meeting in the final for the chance to be crowned kings of the Campionato Primavera.

A close game was to be expected and indeed it was, ending 0-0 with yet another game having to be decided on penalties although the Granata should have won it before then when Antonio Barecca blasted over the bar from close range.

Spot kicks would decide the destiny of the trophy and it headed for Verona. Emmanuel Gyasi hit the post with Torino’s first with all four of Chievo’s resulting efforts hitting the back of the net.

That left Claudio Morra needing to score for Torino but he saw his kick saved by Simone Moschin as the Flying Donkeys won the title for the first time in their history.
