The second day of Primavera Play-Off action from Rimini ended with Palermo cursing their luck against Fiorentina and Juventus exiting the tournament at the hands of exciting Chievo Verona.

Up first was the battle of Group C pair Fiorentina and Palermo and with a tight affair expected, so it proved to be.

Cephas Malele gave the Rosanero a lead they held until half time but Cedric Gondo and Alan Empereur turned the tables in the Viola’s favour after the break.

A goal from the Sicilian side’s Davide Monteleone five minutes later ensured the tie would be settled on penalty kicks.

All five of each side’s opening kicks were successful as were the 11th and 12th of the shootout before Diego Peralta scored for Fiorentina again.

Alberto Acquardo could not keep the fine run going and saw his kick saved as Palermo were eliminated.

The fourth and final quarter-final pitted Group B winners Chievo against Group A runners-up Juventus.

Fabio Grosso’s side fell to a 24th minute header from Chievo captain Isnik Alimi who are safely through to the semi finals.

There they will face Fiorentina on Sunday night while the other semi-final will see Lazio and Torino do battle on Saturday night.
