AC Milan and Roma might need to smash their transfer record if they want to land Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Douglas Costa.

The Brazilian is one of six players who did not return to Ukraine as they said their lives might be at risk due to the ongoing political unrest in the east European country.

Tuttomercatoweb.com reports that Shakhtar’s billionaire owner Rinat Akhmetov said he will take legal action if the players do not return to the club.

With French newspaper L’Equipe reporting that Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu has accused Costa’s agent Kia Joorabchian of trying to take advantage of the situation and instigate a move for the player it is believed a move by the Serie A giants would have to meet his buyout clause which is currently set at €60 million.

Costa has netted 25 goals in 121 appearances in the Ukrainian Premier League club since his move from Gremio in 2010.
