Demitrio AlbertiniFormer AC Milan legend and FIGC vice-president Demetrio Albertini has publicly admitted to being interested in running for FIGC presidency following the resignation of former president Giancarlo Abete after Italy’s dismal efforts during the 2014 World Cup.

Despite Carlo Tavecchio being deemed the favourite for the presidency, Albertini highlighted five essential points in a recent interview with Gazzetta dello Sport that he believes needs to be addressed for the sake of revitalizing Italian football.

These points further elaborate on his recent claims that Italian football needs to emulate the German model and focus on youth development.

1. Government revamp: Forming two administrations, each overseeing the Professional and Amateur leagues respectively and modify the current veto policies.

2. League Format modifications: 18 teams in Serie A, 20 in Serie B and a financial feasibility study of the possibility of allocating 60 teams to the Lega Pro structure.

3. Youth Development: Each Serie A team roster must contain a minimum of 10 home grown youth candidates in the maximum 25-player limit.

4. Expanding Grassroots: Encouraging the Italian government to be more willing to provide foreign-born players a chance at Italian citizenship and enhance communications and resources to football schools all over the country.

5. Coverciano Focus: Coverciano will be equipped to provide the best youth development programs for the Italian nationals youth sectors.
