Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has insisted Arturo Vidal wants to stay, despite reports earlier on Tuesday claiming that the Chilean had verbally agreed to join Manchester United this summer.

The Bianconeri lost their first game under the new coach, losing 3-2 to lowly Lucento, and now face newly-promoted Serie A side Cesena on Wednesday.

The former AC Milan coach revealed in his press conference that he held talks with Vidal in which the midfielder expressed his desire to stay at the Old Lady.

“He played in the World Cup and because of the surgery on his meniscus before it, he is not 100 percent,” Allegri said.

“He is motivated and happy to be here and we are delighted because he’s staying here at Juventus though he needs a few days to get back to full fitness and so I have decided that he will follow an individualised training program that will help him get back to 100% immediately.

“It is an important season that’s going to be very difficult and for my players to win a fourth consecutive league title and for me to win the title with a different club would be special. Moreover, we want to do well in Europe.

“The senior internationals returned for training and I can see that they are very motivated for next season. I am new to this environment having been catapulted into it so suddenly, so I’m still trying to get a grip on things for which I’ll have to be quick because we’ve only got a month to prepare.

“Pirlo? I spoke to him 15 days ago and I repeat that we don’t have any kind of problem because we are both professionals.

“We will face AC Milan on the third matchday and it will be a special evening for me. It will be exciting because I have great memories with Milan and it’s going to be a fascinating match between the two title contenders.”
