Fiorentina have hit a wall in their attempt to extend the contract of midfielder Alberto Aquilani.

The Italian playmaker continues to train with the Viola in preparation for the new season but is unhappy with the offer of €1.5 million per season wages, a drop from the €1.8m he is currently earning. However, with David Pizarro recently signed a to a one-year extension, Fiorentina are holding firm.

According to La Nazionale, this will be a decisive week in the negotiations, suggesting Aquilani may move to new MLS franchise New York City FC in the winter if a deal is not struck.

The 30-year-old scored six goals and one assist in 31 appearances for Fiorentina last season.
