While rumours circulate around Italy that Roma full-back Federico Balzaretti’s career could be at risk it is believed that the Giallorossi are about to express their confidence in the Italian international by offering a one-year extension.

The 32-year-olds Serie A campaign got off to a wonderful start in Rome as he scored the vital opener against city rivals Lazio in September as they began the season unbeaten under new coach Rudi Garcia, but shortly after suffered the groin injury that has kept him out for eight months.

Leggo broke the news that the former Palermo defenders’ career was now at serious risk, as a number of specialists have travelled to assess his injury without any sign of improvement.

However, just as they had with current Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella, Corriere della Sera are reporting that Roma are also looking to retain Balzaretti beyond his playing career and offer him a coaching role within their youth ranks.
