Bayern Munich are reportedly ready to make a serious offer for Roma defender Mehdi Benatia in the coming weeks.

The 27-year-old has been a main target of several European giants including Barcelona, Chelsea and Liverpool since the opening of the summer transfer window, though it seems the reigning Bundesliga champions may now be the favourites in securing his services before the start of the 2014-15 season.

According to the Daily Star, Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola is fond of the Moroccan international and would be willing to pay Roma’s asking price of around €38 million to land the him in the near future.

Reports also suggest, however, that the German side could face competition from Liverpool now that the Premier League club have acquired a large sum of transfer money from Luis Suarez’s move to Barcelona.

Benatia joined the Giallorossi from Udinese in July 2013 and scored five goals in his 33 Serie A appearances last term.
