Benfica have turned their attention to Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero, as they look for a replacement for Jan Oblak, who has joined Atletico Madrid.

The 27 year old starred for Argentina at this year’s World Cup and his strong performances on the world stage have no doubt garnered attention from bigger clubs on the continent.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola report that Benfica have placed the Sampdoria man at the top of their wishlist as they look to replace their incumbent Oblak, who recently left the club.

Romero recently returned to Sampdoria after spending last season on loan at Monaco, and Samp may be willing to sell if the price is right.
