AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi has admitted he was set to sell striker Mario Balotelli to an unknown English club before the Italian’s poor showing at the World Cup.

The Italian international had been linked with a move to Arsenal before the Azzurri’s disastrous showing at the World Cup and it appears as though his poor play has scuppered a potential deal that would have seen him move to England.

“Nevermind Italy, I am the one who lost the World Cup because I was about to sell Balotelli to an English club for millions,” Berlusconi told reporters at Montecitorio.

“However after this World Cup who will buy him?”

Berlusconi’s statements through even further doubt over Balotelli’s future with the Rossoneri reportedly looking for €30 million for his services in order to finance their transfer market.
