Brazil forward Neymar has been ruled out for the remainder of the World Cup after suffering a fractured vertabrae during the Selecao’s 2-1 win over Colombia on Friday.

The Barcelona star was forced off in the 88th minute after a thunderous challenge from Juan Zuniga left the star striker holding his back in what appeared to be much discomfort.

Globo TV are reporting that the 22-year-old suffered a fractured third lumbar vertebra that will leave him out for four to six weeks.

The news means that Brazil will head into July 8 semi-final matchup against Germany without their leading scorer and captain Thiago Silva, as the defender received a yellow card against Los Cafeteros that will rule him out for the crunch tie.
