Torino’s first game in European football for over a decade ended with an outstanding 3-0 away to Brommapojkarna as they look set to advance in the Europa League.

These sides were somewhat fortuitous to get into the competition – the Swedes playing in Europe for the first time by virtue of their fair play while the Italians came in the back door after Parma were ejected.

They were without Alessio Cerci but started brightly, Marcelo Larrondo flashing the ball over the bar inside the opening 10 minutes.

Nicklas Barkroth sent in a convenient ball that Daniele Padelli dealt with easily as the home side’s encouragement grew but they were undone just moments before the half time whistle.

Having been reduced to 10 men when Sergestrom was penalised for bringing down Paulo Barreto and Larrondo stroked home the kick with ease.

Toro themselves would be reduced to 10 with little under half an hour left to play after Giuseppe Vives’ dismissal but the damage was done before then thanks to a blistering start to the second half.

The Granata were well on top on the synthetic surface and eight minutes into the second half doubled their lead when Larrondo, who missed so much of last season through injury, when he turned home a cross from the right.

Five minutes later, the tie was essentially won when Barreto curled home a wonderful strike after eluding the defenders in his way.

Vives would be shown the red card for his foul in the box then that gave away a penalty and giving the Swedish side the chance to give themselves some measure of a chance in Turin.

But they have a huge mountain to climb after Dardan Rexhepi sent his effort high and over the bar.
