Former Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has reached a one-year deal with Serie A side Cagliari.

Having seen out his contract at Watford the Spaniard is set to bring his wealth of experience to the Sardinians ahead of the new season.

Cagliari president Tomasso Giulini told Sky Sport Italia that the club were ready to sign a goalkeeper with Champions League experience and Almunia is expected to put pen to paper but not before undergoing a medical with the club on Monday.

The 37 year old made 109 appearances for Arsenal between 2004 and 2012, winning the FA Cup in 2005.

Almunia has featured in 39 matches in the Champions League, and replaced Jens Lehmann in the 2006 final against Barcelona after the German was sent off.
