Cagliari defender Davide Astori is set to snub Lazio for arch-rivals Roma after the Biancocelesti failed to meet the Sardinians’ asking price.

The former AC Milan defender was reportedly heading to Lazio with the deal expected to be wrapped by Thursday; however, the capital club refused the Rossoblu’s counter offer.

Speaking to Sardegna Sport, Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini said that the deal will no longer take place, as the Biancocelesti are not willing to pay €7 million for the player.

“I spoke with Lazio President Claudio Lotito and we made a final counter offer worth €7m,” he said. “However, it was refused, so as far as I’m concerned the deal is off.”

According to Sky Sport Italia, the defender is now expected to sign for Roma on a season-long loan deal worth €2m, and the Giallorossi will have the option to buy the player at the end of the 2014/2015 season for €6m.

It is also worth mentioning that Astori recently signed a new three-year contract with the Rossoblu.
