Catania forward moves back to Argentina

Argentine forward Pablo Barrientos has left Catania in order to return to San Lorenzo in the Argentine Primera Division.

The 29-year-old had been with the Etnei since 2009 bar a sojourn in 2011 with Estudiantes and now he will return to the club that launched his professional career.

San Lorenzo announced on their official website that they had signed Barrientos on Wednesday and he is expected to join coach Edgardo Bauza and his new teammates straight away.

This will be Barrientos’ third stint with the Cuervos, having scored 15 goals in 103 appearances with the Buenos Aires-based club.

Barrientos scored five goals in 28 matches for Catania in Serie A last season and overall he scored 14 goals in 86 Serie A matches for the Etnei.

At international level, he played 15 times for the Argentine under-20 national team and scored six goals.

He also played at the 2005 South American U-20 Championship with Argentina alongside Lionel Messi.
