Chievo have confirmed that they have signed the Argentine forward Maxi Lopez from Catania after the 30-year-old’s second loan spell at Sampdoria came to an end.

Lopez has signed a one year contract with the Flying Donkeys with the option of an additional year.

“I have the same determination as Chievo,” said Lopez to Chievo’s official website after joining the Verona club.

“They really wanted to sign me and I understood immediately that it would be an important opportunity for me.”

“It is definitely the best choice for me and the kind words from Mr [Eugenio] Corini were very encouraging.

“Now I have to play well on the pitch to repay the faith placed in me by the coach and the club.”

Lopez’s contract is believed to be worth €1.5 million per year with a bonus of €200.000 that will be triggered if he manages to score five goals in a season.

The 30-year-old appeared 11 times for Sampdoria during his second loan spell in Genoa during the 2013-14 Serie A season, scoring once.
