Carlo TavecchioCarlo Tavecchio, frontrunner for the presidency of the FIGC, has refused to withdraw his candidacy following a racism row.

A blazing row has erupted following the current president of the LND’s [National Amateur League] now infamous remarks referring to “banana eaters” playing in Italy, but has come out fighting his case and today announced that he will continue to fight to become the head of Italian football.

“I have the support of the League, I will go on with my candidacy for president of the Football Association,” Tavecchio stated as reported by ANSA.

“And now I will fight all forms of discrimination in sport.”

Tavecchio’s comments have become a lightning rod in Italian football with former allies Fiorentina, Cesena and Sassuolo withdrawing their support for the 71 year old following his comments.
