Crespo: Coming back to Parma gives me great satisfaction

Hernan Crespo has been announced as the new coach of the Parma Primavera team.

The 39-year-old retired in 2012 after an illustrious career that lasted 19 years.

Parma’s statement read: “Hernan Crespo is the new coach of Parma’s youth team.’Valdanito’ [Crespo], who had unforgettable success at Parma and is considered the Parma Player of the Century by the Gialloblu fans, will take over the role that had been carried out by Fausto Pizzi in the last three seasons.”

Crespo at Parma for a total of six seasons and was a key member of the team that completed a rare double in 1998-99 season, winning the Coppa Italia and the UEFA Cup. He remains the club’s all-time record goalscorer with 94 goals in 201 games.

“Coming back home is a great satisfaction,” the Argentinian said. “I’m privileged and I thank Parma for giving me this opportunity.

“My kids have to understand that they are a big club. I like the idea of the project at such an important moment for Italian football. It’s tempting to work with young people.”
